Technical Assistance
To achieve the goal of women’s participation in the industry, institutions must be intentional about their equity goals, implement new strategies, and adapt their policies and practices to ensure that women have an equitable opportunity to learn about, enter and succeed in occupations traditionally held by men. CWIT works to build the capacity of apprenticeship programs, employers, training providers and the workforce system to achieve gender equity goals by providing guidance, best practices, tools and materials, staff training, curriculum, replicable program models and other resources and strategies that have proven successful in attracting and retaining women in these fields.

Advocacy
Through our participation with the National Task Force on Tradeswomen Issues, we work to support federal policies which provide access for women in nontraditional, high-wage training and employment and ensure that funding remains available to provide technical assistance to employers, registered apprenticeship sponsors, and workforce development professionals to recruit, retain, and help women succeed in these careers. In addition, we advocate for enforcement of equal opportunity employment laws and workforce compliance to support gender equity with the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, Federal Highway Administration, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and other federal, state, and local governments.

Tradeswomen’s Leadership Development
CWIT also works to support tradeswomen in changing the industry from the inside, providing education, support groups and women’s committee development and facilitation, mentoring, resources and guidance in understanding their rights, resolving issues on the job, and advancing into positions of leadership.
