Census Deadline Approaching
The time to act is NOW! The Deadline to complete the Census has been moved up to September 30!
Why is it so important for every Tradeswoman to complete the census and encourage all members of the family to do so as well?
Census results affect planning and funding for infrastructure—including programs for highway planning and construction, Section 8 housing, federal transit and community development, which may bring more work our way.
Census results affect planning and funding for education—including programs such as Head Start, Pell Grants, school lunches, which means more support for our families.
Census results affect planning and funding for employment and training—including CWIT’s programs like TOP and Technical Assistance to unions, apprenticeships, and contractors.
Census results affect planning and funding for healthcare—including programs such as Medicaid, Medicare Part B, State Children’s Health Insurance, and the prevention and treatment of substance abuse, and we all know someone who has benefited from one of these programs.
Census results affect representation in government—including number and distribution of congressional seats and Electoral College votes. Census results affect planning and funding for the next ten years.
Census responses are private and cannot be shared with any person, organization, or government body, including any level of law enforcement. Anyone who violates the privacy protection and confidentiality of census data law faces severe penalties, and organizations like the ACLU are closely monitoring compliance with these laws.
The census counts all persons living in the United States on April 1, 2020. There is no citizenship question.
If people are not counted, their communities will receive less representation in government and fewer resources.
